An integrated database for natural historical specimen collections in Japan

Science Museum Net (S-Net) is an integrated database of natural historical collections deposited in participant museums and other institutions. It is hosted by the National Museum of Nature and Science, in collaboration with the Japan Biodiversity Information Initiative (JBIF) supported by the National BioResource Project (NBRP) by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

The S-Net website provides specimen occurrence data primarily in Japanese. Data published through S-Net are also made available via the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). To access these datasets on GBIF, please refer to the following “List of Data Providers” page and select a dataset to view its corresponding page in the GBIF data portal.
